The CRC IF/WISER Project currently has a visiting student, Claire Duverne, from the AgroParisTech Grande école in Paris. During her six month stay, Claire is working with the CRC IF to improve her knowledge on water management and to learn about the water situation in Australia.
Claire comes from Marseille, where severe water shortages and pollution resulted in large epidemics within the city, till the middle of the 19th Century. Since 1850, the water supply in Marseille has been provided by the Canal de Marseille, with no further water shortages as a result. Nevertheless, in remembrance of the earlier water shortages, Marseille is now promoting sustainable water management.
For the last decade, water in Marseille has been considered the best quality water in France. Marseille will proudly host the 6th Global Water Forum in 2012.
